Summary

In Chapter 2, Eyes arrives at the meeting place early, telling Mom he is going to a library in a nearby town. Kojima is wearing an over-sized Hawaiian print shirt and carries a bag with a kitten's face on it. She has been awake since four that morning and notices that he talks strangely because he bit his tongue. He confirms that it hurt but says he did not cry. They discuss the correlation between being hurt and crying. They also have a discussion about Kojima's outfit, which she says is her “someday best” and whether that means the same as “Sunday best.” They board a train with only a few people in their car.
