Summary

The story “Heavenly Shades of Night Are Falling,” is set in 1999 in Harwich. Bobby returned to his hometown for Sully-John’s memorial service. Since he had not been home in nearly 40 years, he walked to 149 Broad Street. The house where he had lived with his mother was still standing.

Looking back, he believed there had been a kind of magic about his childhood. He remembered the rose petals, but wondered if they had really meant anything. He had lost them about the time he learned that Carol was dead. For Bobby, her death cancelled the idea of magic.
