Summary

Chapter 38: "Grim Reaper" opens as Claire sees two men trying to force mules through a difficult path. Realizing they are transporting firearms, Claire rushes home. MacLeod and Jamie realize that path only goes to captain Cunningham. Claire gets Ian and returns to the men with Jamie and MacLeod. The men introduce themselves as Summers and Voules. Jamie sends Ian to bring Captain Cunningham.

By dinner, Captain Cunningham arrives and Claire thinks the men are dangerous. The Captain says that Summers was a friend of his son's and Cunningham accuses Jamie of treating them poorly. Jamie recalls how the British often provide Indians with supplies to attack rebels. Cunningham says he is proud to be a loyalist, and Jamie says it does not matter as long as the Ridge is protected. Jamie offers a toast to peace, but tricks Voules into revealing...
