Point of View

Firefly Lane is told through a third person limited narrator. The narrator’s focus alternates between focusing on Tully and Kate’s point of views. This is especially useful since both women have trouble expressing how they really feel. For instance, they both refrain from confessing their jealousy of each other. This pent-up jealousy creates tension within their friendship and often overpowers the good intentions that each woman has. This, along with the many other internal struggles Tully and Kate go through, make the narrator’s role a crucial one. The narrator grants the reader an in-depth look into the thoughts and feelings of the protagonists which allows the reader to empathize with each woman, in turn.
