Summary

Chapter 23 flashes forward to the year 2000. Marah is ten and the twins, Lucas and William, are two. Kate works hard as a stay-at-home mom but feels burnt out. Tully is now a world-famous broadcasting celebrity. She feels empty and unfulfilled by her on-again-off-again relationship with Grant.

Marah has her dance recital in Chapter 24. Tully throws her a surprise party after with a pink limousine and a fancy hotel dinner. That night, Tully opens up to Kate about how lonely she feels. Two years later, Kate tries to bond with preteen Marah. Marah was recently abandoned by her friend and does not know why. Kate takes her out of school for lunch and then a movie. Marah tells her she loves her, and Kate thinks about how being a stay-at-home mom is worth it.

Chapter 25 picks up a year later. Tully runs into Chad...
