Summary

Michelle found shelter a week after she ran away at a Baptist church that supplied hot meals for the homeless. It was Thanksgiving Day. She had been sleeping on a stack of newspapers in a small park. She didn’t sleep well afraid of rats gnawing in the trash cans. She found a bat to protect herself when she slept. It was too cold out in the open, so Michelle found a bridge that would give her more shelter from the wind and cold to sleep under. The “bridge” was really a highway overpass. Michelle secreted herself in the tall grass at night to sleep. She felt safer there, liked her privacy and there were no cops around. She hoped she was far enough away from home that her parents wouldn’t spot her. She stole a big blue garbage...
