Leaves

Leaves represent Dodge's connection to the world around him. In the second chapter, Dodge observes the leaves falling and is mesmerized by one. He also saves a leaf inside the book he gives to Sophia. Later on, as Dodge wakes up as Egdod in the Bitworld, the first concrete item he creates is a leaf.

Sophia's Mythology Books

At the start of the novel, Dodge gifts Sophia two book of mythology, one discussing Greek mythology and one discussing Norse mythology. In addition to being a symbol of the bond between Dodge and Sophia, the books also serve to foreshadow the ways in which events in Dodge's life and in the Bitworld mirror various parts of Greek mythology.
