Summary

In the first chapter, Dodge wakes up in his bedroom in his luxury apartment in Seattle. Dodge does not have to go to his office that day, as he is scheduled for a medical procedure at 11 a.m. Dodge is the founder and chairman of a large, successful video game company called Corporation 9592. The weekend prior, Dodge’s grandniece Sophia, whom he thinks of as his granddaughter, had spent two days with him while her parents, Dodge’s niece Zula and her husband, Csongor had taken a trip. On a whim, he had also bought her two books of mythology. Dodge has had several serious relationships which have all ended, and in his mind imagines them all judging him and his actions continually, comparing them to both the Muses and the Furies in Greek mythology.
