Lakka Government Hospital, Sierra Leone

Lakka Government Hospital is where Green first meets Henry. It is the only MDR-TB treatment facility in all of Sierra Leone. When Henry is first transferred there, he thought of it as "a place where people go to die." Henry is optimistic by the time he meets Green.

The hospital is full of dedicated staff, but it lacks basic resources. For example, there is no running water or electricity for hours each day. Though some improvements can be made, there are still some crumbling walls and an ever-growing graveyard. It is here that Henry writes his best, his saddest, and his strangest poetry. The poetry celebrates his mother for consistently supporting him and mourns the loss of his dead roommate and the friends who abandoned him.
