Summary

The next diary entry is titled Saturday. Greg's team has the first game. Mr. Patel has introduced some new plays that are “gibberish” to Greg. Their opponents score first, “And that set the tone for the rest of the game” (131). Mr. Patel yells at the team members on the bench, including Greg. He tries to look ashamed, thinking that is what Mr. Patel expects. Greg is worried that Mr. Patel will put him in the game. So, he moves to the end of the bench. Mrs. Heffley has a huge poster of Greg's face and a sign that reads, “Put Greg in.” They are playing in their home gym, which is not really a good thing.
