Chapter 8: The Gray Lord's Song Summary

When they get to the waters around the Old Man Shoals, they find the whale who will sing the part of the Gray. Nita is lost in her own thoughts, knowing she only has two days left when a voice interrupts her thoughts, telling her to stop sniveling. Shocked, Nita begins to back up as the angry sperm whale closes the distance between them. Nita tries apologizing, but the sperm whale is in no mood to be placated. Nita continues to retreat while the sperm whale advances. She identifies herself, revealing that she is a human wizard. The sperm whale rushes at her suddenly, crying out in anger and calling her a Spy and a Murderer. The sperm whale's spell catches her off guard, throwing her backwards, head over tail.
