Summary

In Chapter 14, “Lovely,” Zauner and her father made funeral arrangements. They chose the phrase “Lovely Mother, Wife, and Best Friend” (158) for Chongmi's headstone. Nami Emo and Seong Young came for the funeral. When they went to the grave afterward, Zauner saw that the headstone said “loving” instead of “lovely.” The next day, Zauner wished to make breakfast for her aunt and cousin. She went to YouTube and found a video by a woman named Maangchi, explaining how to prepare fermented soybean soup. She followed the instructions and felt satisfied at being able to accomplish this. There was a knock at the door and when Zauner answered, the person was gone. A note had been left, addressed to Chongmi, from her art class teacher, who had heard about her death.
