Crying in Ha Mart is a memoir by Michelle Zauner. Zauner is an indie music star who performs under the name Japanese Breakfast. In the book, she recounts the death of her mother, Chongmi, in 2014. After Chongmi was diagnosed with cancer, Zauner moved from Philadelphia back home to Eugene, Oregon to take care of her. As she struggled with her mother's illness and eventual death, she also contemplated her own Korean identity. The memoir addresses themes such as loss, mother-daughter relationships, and the significance of food.
