Point of View

The novel is told in the limited third-person. What makes it unique, however, is that it follows six separate characters at various times throughout. Each character has their own backstory and reasons for joining the Dregs, and they all have a unique voice that helps the reader relate to each one. Each character also has their own theme and parts to play in Kaz’s plans. These six narrative points of views are:

Kaz, the leader of the crew and a master strategist. In his chapters, the reader learns about his trauma and desire for revenge against both Van Eck and Rollins for wronging him.

Inej, a master acrobatic and the group’s spymaster. Her perspective explores the darker side of Ketterdam’s indenture system and the unique way she looks at the world from the shadows.
