Summary

In Chapter Five, Coraline’s parents have still not returned when she comes back from her visit to her other family. The next morning, they still haven’t come home. She visits Miss Spink and Miss Forcible telling them her parents are missing but they don’t seem to notice what she is telling them. Her parents still haven’t come home at bedtime. Coraline wakes in the night and goes to her parents’ room. They still aren’t there. She gets into their bed and cries herself to sleep.

The cat wakes her up. He can’t talk but blinks when Coraline asks if he knows where her parents are. It leads her to a mirror in which she can see her parents. Her mother blows fog on the mirror and writes the words “help us.” The cat indicates they are trapped in...
