Chapters 21, 22, 23, and Epilogue Summary

In Chapter 21, Luke tells Clary the story of what happened all those years ago. Luke was never very good at school, and he could not stand even the lightest marks. Valentine, who was the most popular boy in school, came to him and offered to train him. Under Valentine's tutelage, Luke excelled in his studies, received marks, and killed his first demon. Valentine also recruited some other social misfits, who eventually became the Circle. At first, the Circle simply spoke out trying to get the Mortal Cup to make more shadowhunters, but after Valentine's father is killed by a werewolf, all of that changes. Valentine becomes even crueler that he was before, and now he also argues for war with all Downworlders.
