Chapters 16 and 17 Summary

In chapter sixteen, Clary and Luke arrive to find Simon's house in perfect arrangement with no signs of a struggle. His cell phone is in his room with a text message that reads, "Now I have them all." Luke realizes it means Valentine has all the children for the Ritual of Conversion. They debate whether Valentine's choice of Maia and Simon are aimed at hurting Clary or Jace. Clary believes that Jace did something to Valentine the previous night on his ship that made him mad enough to target Simon and Maia specifically.

Alec goes to Isabelle's room where they are joined by Jace. Isabelle asks how Jace escaped and he says it appears he and Clary each have powers they haven't tested before. Jace says he plans to go to Valentine's ship but insists Isabelle and Alec remain behind to...
