Chapter Five and Six Summary

Chapter Five: Derek tells Raven that he refuses to work with Mickey Cray, and surely there are other handlers with humongous alligators in Florida. Raven knows that most large alligators won't tolerate Derek's presence the way Alice will. Derek dismisses the Crays as hillbillies. Mickey leads Alice to the Everglades set in his yard, using raw chicken to entice her. Derek exits his air-conditioned trailer. He has wet oatmeal splattered on his hiking boots to resemble mud. Derek gets a coating of spray-on tan before shooting begins. Alice is no threat to anyone, with her full belly, but Raven makes sure Mickey has a gun handy, as per their contract.
