'It Smells Like Life to Me' Summary

Jane's dying becomes more bearable since the more capacity she loses, the less awareness she has of what is happening to her. She is filled with a sense of loss but cannot imagine what it is that she has lost. She clings to the last few active ansible links, left open by her friends but is filled with a need to grow. She begins attempting to let go off the ansible lines, casting about for some other space in which to exist and in doing so, she senses a familiar presence and makes the leap into Young Val.
