Summary

In “Araceli Chavez (2005),” Araceli stopped talking to Ever “when he didn’t show up to his father’s funeral” (157). Therefore, she was upset when she learned that her best friend Jimena was seeing him. She tried warning “her about Ever,” but Jimena was blinded by love (157).

When Ever and Jimena got married, Ever was “working with at-risk Indio kids in Lawton” (158). Though Araceli loved Jimena, she continued resenting Ever.

Jimena told Araceli about “driving into Mexico” with Ever to see his grandparents (159). He was shocked by the landscape, and happy to meet Lucia and Javier for the first time since childhood. Before they left, Lucia told Jimena and Ever to tell their kids their great-grandmother lived in Mexico (163). The couple would not, however, learn of Jimena’s pregnancy until they returned home.
