The House

The House is symbolic of trauma. Before the events of January 14, 1978, The House represents sisterhood and community to Pamela and her friends. However, after January 14, The House becomes a representation of the violence the women suffered in this setting. This is why Pamela's mind immediately reverts back to scenes at The House after she receives Dr. Donnelly's letter.

Denise's Room

Denise's room is symbolic of memory. After Denise's death, Pamela starts sleeping in her friend's old room. Being in Denise's space and studying her old belongings reminds Pamela of her memories with her friend.

Chandelier

The House chandelier is symbolic of clarity. When Pamela finds the chandelier still lit on the night of January 14, 1978, she knows that something is wrong. The chandelier also illuminates The Defendant when Pamela sees him in the hall, and thus authenticates her version of events.
