Summary

In “Pamela, Montclair, New Jersey, Day 15,825,” 43 years after “the All-American Sex Killer” invaded her life, Pamela Schumacher receives a letter from someone associated with the incident (1). She decides to go to Tallahassee in response to the note.

In “Tallahassee, Florida, January 14, 1978, Seven hours before,” one Saturday night, Pamela’s sorority sisters got ready to go out. Pamela’s friend Denise Andora asked to borrow her coat, wanting to impress her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Roger Yul. Pamela made her promise to dry-clean it. Denise teased Pamela, calling her Pam Perfect, a name inspired by the PAM cooking spray commercials (6).

Pamela and Denise became friends when they started at Florida State, but their relationship was strained. Unlike former chapter presidents, Pamela did not let her friends “get away with murder” (6).
