Summary

In “Ruth, Issaquah, Winter 1974,” Ruth biked to Tina’s house for grief group. The house was known in the area, because Ed was the famous “old Texas millionaire” who had built it (150). Seeing the house made Ruth revert to demureness. Inside, she heard Tina and her friend Janelle fighting. While the other women arrived, Ruth snuck upstairs to check on Tina, who was hiding in her room. Tina said she was upset because of her affair with Janelle. Janelle was supposed to accompany Tina to a conference in Aspen to support her while she did “a mock therapy session,” but had backed out because she was married (155). Shocked and elated, Ruth offered to accompany Tina (155).

In “Pamela, Aspen, 1978, Day 12,” Pamela, Carl, and Tina flew to Colorado. Meanwhile, Pamela deliberated over whether or not to press charges against Roger.
