Summary

Devon sits with the Ravenscars as she explains how she left the manor after Matley’s death. Devon tells them that Cai went vegetative after eating a book eater’s brain. These are more difficult to eat than the brains of humans. She fed Cai a baby’s brain to bring him back to consciousness. She knows that this is not even as bad as the actual truth. She knows she ruined families with that choice because the baby will not do any of the things that it is supposed to. Cai has not called her mother since then. Devon does not think she deserves the title any way.
