Summary

The Prologue introduces the four Blue sisters: Avery, Bonnie, Nicky, and Lucky. Avery, as the oldest, is considered their leader. She took care of her sisters growing up, teaching them all how to swim. After she graduated from Columbia University, she disappeared to San Francisco where she developed a heroin addiction. A year later, without her family knowing anything about it, Avery checked herself into a detox clinic and has been clean ever since. The narration notes that in a few weeks’ time, Avery will do something that will damage her marriage and her life.
