Chapter 9 Summary

Jerome yells his throat hoarse calling for the puppy Finn that Lila bought for their mother. On top of it, Jerome is having a hard time walking around with his crutches to try to find the dog. Claudia is now working at the primary school as the cook because the cook they had hired wasn't a success. Jerome hears a tractor, sheep and an airplane, but nothing else as he hobbles down the alley looking for Finn. Jerome realizes he misses India, which is brilliant compared to the blandness of the countryside where he is now. He hears birds squawking, which leads him to Valerie Pomeroy's house, where Finn is chasing Valerie's chicken. Jerome uses his crutch to stop the puppy and he is able to grab Finn.
