Summary

“In the Blink of God’s Eye” follows the early days of a marriage between two young people, Ruth Hawkins and Aubrey Patterson. Both of them were raised in Arlington, Virginia, but Aubrey spent much of his childhood in the company of his father, Miles, who was doing religious work in Kansas; upon returning to Virginia, Aubrey’s mother abandoned him and Miles in order to take up with a man who lived down the street. After marrying, Ruth and Aubrey move to Washington, D.C., where one night Ruth finds a baby abandoned in a tree and insists on taking it in and naming it after Aubrey’s father.
