Summary

The narrator was unsure who the voice belonged to. He could not understand who the presence was, nor why he was so sure they were there (34). He tried to see around him, but the world he had found himself in was “so dark and black” (34). Then he noticed it had stopped snowing and the moon and stars had come out. He realized the only word to describe them was beautiful (34). He felt annoyed with how obvious his thoughts were.

The narrator wondered if the presence was an apparition, although he did not want to believe he was “seeing things” (35). However, he had been walking so long that he could have had a vision. He tried to remember the way he had come. He wished he were in his car “feeling nice and warm” (36). Yet, he did not mind standing in the forest observing...
