Summary

In Chapter 7, Maurice and Maralyn had been adrift for three weeks and were beginning to look skeletal due to the lack of food. In Chapter 8 on the 29th of March, having been adrift for 25 days, they saw another ship. They used their last two remaining flares in an attempt to alert it to their presence. One flare failed. The second succeeded, but the ship did not notice it and sailed on into the night. Maralyn suggested that since two ships had failed to spot them, it would be third time lucky. A third ship passed them two weeks later on the 10th of April. With no remaining flares, they were unable to draw attention to themselves and the ship left without noticing them.
