• Jade explains how her mother wanted her to attend St. Francis, a majority-white private school in Portland, Oregon.
• Jade and her mother discuss how Jade should make more friends at St. Francis but then shares a story about how it is hard for her to relate to many of her wealthy classmates.
• Jade explains how going to St. Francis is a good opportunity for her and that she must take it "for girls with coal skin and hula-hoop hips" (7).
