Prologue - Chapter 1

· In the Prologue, “Mr. Yang,” Gene Luen Yang shares how much he has hated sports since he was a kid.

· He especially disliked basketball because he always got hurt, his teammates yelled at him, and he usually got kicked off teams.

· He is not a sports kind of guy; he is a comic book story guy.

· After Gene graduated from college, he began writing and drawing graphic novels and telling stories of his own.

· Around the same time, he became a high school teacher at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California.

· In 2013, his last graphic novel was published.

· It took six years because of his teaching job and his family obligations.

· By the fall of 2014, he has not started a new graphic...
