As millions of people around the world watched the towers burn on live television, they were stunned by the report that another plane had crashed, this time into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. American Airlines Flight 77, which had taken off at 8:10 A.M.from Washington's Dulles Airport en route to Los Angeles, crashed at 9:43 A.M. into the west side of the Pentagon. Witnesses said the pilot pushed the throttle to full speed as the plane flew low above the ground toward the building. Then a wing caught the ground and the plane cartwheeled into the Pentagon. Killed in the crash were 125 military and civilian employees at the Pentagon, 59 passengers and crew, and 5 hijackers. Robert J.
