Out of My Dreams is a 2024 work of realistic middle grade fiction by Sharon M. Draper. Much of the novel takes place in London, England after the novel’s protagonist, Melody Brooks, is awarded a trip to the country after saving her neighbor’s life. This is the third book Draper wrote about this protagonist who has cerebral palsy. The first two books are Out of My Mind and Out of My Heart. This book refers back to what happens in those books at times but can also be read as a stand alone novel. Key themes include the ways that challenges can help people understand one another, the way the world becomes a better place when people help those around them, the ways that people do not always know those around them, the fact that there are some things that people with disabilities simply cannot do, and the way that genius often requires perseverance and a new perspective.
