Summary

Chapter 22 begins Book Two. Jude wakes in the Undersea. She struggles, but she can breathe the water. Nicasia, her legs replaced by a tail, strikes Jude as soon as she wakes. Jude is terrified of what Madoc will do while she is away. Nicasia torments her but Jude refuses to act afraid. Later, she is released from her chains, dressed, and taken to a table where Orlagh, Nicasia, and Balekin are seated. Jude hides the fact that she is immune to glamour and pretends to accept Orlagh's statement that Jude would do anything for them. Jude is hungry and eats the food, including raw fish. She considers that Balekin cannot possibly like this alliance and that she might be able to exploit that. They question Jude and she lies when she says she would hand Oak over to them.
