Summary

In Chapter 10, the Hunter's Moon signals a party organized by Locke. The rumor is spreading that Cardan shot his lover “for sport” and “his legend grows from there” (89). Jude has to step over people sleeping all over the palace. While some are courtiers who have partied with Cardan, others are guards and servants who, taking their cue from Cardan, are willing to abandon their duties. Jude asks him to extend his vow, remaining under her control for longer than the year they first agreed to. He refuses outright, saying he does not want to trust her “without hope of being trusted in return” (91).

In Chapter 11, the revel takes place at Milkwood, near the palace. Jude realizes that Cardan stole a ring from her hand and she did not even notice. He has been training with the Roach and is clearly mastering the skills...
