Chapter 15: The New World Summary

Dillon is never found. Jackie takes a new job for a Pittsburgh newspaper as an editor. Hassel calls once a month with updates about Number Thirteen that has been spared in the flood. The governor finally approves a new bridge. Jackie knows that she can never return. Everything she knew and loved there is gone.

Jackie has final resolution about her relationship to Dillon. Since everything is gone that Jackie loved she knows she will never return to the area. There is too much sadness connected to the little mining community.
