Chapter 12: God's Bones-1987 Summary

Jackie

The American Coal Company obtains rights to Homeplace which means they will strip mine the area where the family graves are. Dillon and Jackie discuss relationships and Dillon clams up when she asks him if he's ever been in love. Arthur Lee supervises moving the graves which is very emotional especially for Jackie. The machine that moves the graves malfunctions when moving Dillon's father's remains and they scatter all over the ground. Dillon becomes enraged and starts choking Arthur Lee. Jackie rescues a skeletal hand so that Dillon can bury it near him. The emotional Dillon tells Jackie that he is her father. He is more sure than ever because he sees himself in her more every day. He te hllser how much he and Rachel loved each other.
