Chapter 2 Summary

J. Taylor had paid the butcher's boy, an acquaintance of Becky's, to find a copper. Becky walks with Mr. Taylor. He had been looking for Adelaide whom he knew ten years ago. Becky tells him that Adelaide and the prince are married.

Taylor tells Becky the story of Adelaide. She had been a servant to Ms. Holland. The father of a woman named Sally Lockhart, now Mrs. Goldberg, had been murdered. Adelaide then disappeared.

Taylor takes Becky to Orchard House in Twickenham to meet Mrs. Goldberg. They tell her about the bomb. Becky identified Adelaide from pictures. Becky says for lunch and tells them about Razkavia. It is basically a farming country but there are nickel mines which both Germany and Austria-Hungary consider to be important. Mrs. Goldberg is leaving for American the next day.
