Summary

Chapter 7. The six vans open fire on all the houses on the east side of Poplar Street. Two cars catch on fire when the gas tanks explode. Pie Carver suffers terrible wounds to her face and head when a copper pot explodes over her head. Upstairs, Johnny is crawling through the hallway when he comes across an action figure of a character who looks just like one of the men he saw in the vans downstairs. Johnny puts the character in his pocket. On Doc's lawn, Peter Jackson is oblivious to the bullets as he tries to pick up his dead wife. None of the bullets hit him. Then Jackson hears a voice in his head that tells him to cross the street and enter the Wyler house. Peter, whose thoughts are already scrambled by his grief, listens to the voice and enters the dirty...
