Summary

In Chapter 9, Lupita receives a phone call from her niece, Cristina. Cristina is the daughter of Lupita’s older sister, Ada. Cristina says that Ada recently died, although the novel does not yet reveal to the reader the cause of Ada’s death. Lupita briefly recalls some fond memories of Ada.

In Chapter 10 returns to Jackie. Dana departed without greeting Jackie or entering Jackie’s home. Jackie then recalls a memory in which she once heard noise coming from the barn on her property. Her husband, Floyd, emerged from the barn and said that he was chasing away an owl. However, evidence seemed to suggest that Floyd was having sex with someone in the barn.

Chapter 11 shifts focus back to Dana. She enters Edgeweather for the first time in 30 years and greets Kenny, the man who has been living there as a hired caretaker...
