Summary

The novel opens with a map of Pyrrhia, the continent where the dragons of this story live. The continent is shaped roughly like a dragon with different dragons occupying different places. There are seven dragon tribes. All are identified on the map except the NightWing kingdom. At this point in the series, none of the other tribes know where the NightWings live.

The next section is titled A NightWing Guide to the Dragons of Pyrrhia. There is an image and brief description of each of the seven tribes. The information indicates that the NightWing queen died, and her three daughters – Burn, Blister, and Blaze – are fighting for the throne. The daughters have formed various alliances with all the tribes except the RainWings and NightWings. Neither of these tribes has become involved.
