Chapters 17 and 18 Summary

Meredith has a hangover the next day. That night, Cape comes to Bright House during visiting hours. When Meredith returns to her room, she says she's decided to take a break from Cape.

Two weeks later, Cape has not returned to Bright House to visit Meredith again. Cape sends a note to Bettina, telling her to meet him in his room at midnight. As the note tells her to do, Bettina tells Lowell to tell Cape yes. Bettina crawls through Jake's window to get into Cape's room.

Cape says he wants to pay her back for the other night. They talk about his father and a couple of the times Bettina met him. She tells Cape half-truths. He admits to telling his mother that Bettina is at his school and his mom admits to knowing who Bettina is. Cape performs oral...
