Chapter 30 Summary

Sarah is traveling home to England on the Calcutta Maharajah, a ship owned by the East India Company. Dirk visits her before her departure. He gives her a draft for five thousand guineas with the promise that she will receive that amount every other month. He also made the arrangement for the trust fund, as Robb had instructed. They part after having bitter words.

Back at the office, Dirk sends for Aristotle Quance. He tells him to go aboard the Calcutta Maharajah and make a scene as it sails. A sampan will be waiting for him with a change of clothing so he can be disguised as a coolie and hide at the whorehouse for two months. Dirk made all of the arrangements and including a loan.
