Chapter 20 Summary

May-may and Ah-Sam watch the comings and goings on the water with binoculars. They see the approach of Dirk's boat and that he looks very angry. May-May tells Ah-Sam to run a bath for Dirk as she hides her ball gown.

During the fight, Dirk has Orlov search the archduke's quarters and baggage. There are no papers. Dirk also visits the toffs and tells them he would take them to Canton the next day and put them on a board for England. Scragger's son gives him a kerchief with items in it, at his father's request. Inside the kerchief are precious gems and gold and jewelry. The pirate's booty are his inheritance to his son.

Dirk is angry with the contents of the kerchief and wonders what to do with it. He hides it in his strongbox with his papers and takes his bath to prepare for...
