Chapter 3, Hoptedoodle (1) Summary

This is a turning point where everything seems to change in Monterey. For the first time, Doc is starting to lose interest in his life, he no longer turns a rock and gets excited to find a whole colony of species underneath. Doc realizes that he is discontent and that some thing is wrong, he goes to a series of doctors who all agree that nothing is actually wrong with him. Doc starts to listen to the voices in his mind that describes as the three voices of his "feeling mind". The "top voice" tells him what he wants to see and feel, the "lower voice" voices the questions of his subconscious, the "third voice" gives him the reality that he doesn't want to hear "Lonesome, lonesome!
