Chapter Nine Summary

Robert turns out to be a spirit user who has definitely lost part of his sanity in heavy price for his mystical gifts. Unbalanced and wary, he meets with the company of Rose, Lissa, Robert, Adrian and Eddie in a Luxor dining room. Robert immediately sees through the auras of those present. He labels Rose as "shadow-kissed" and Lissa as "spirit-charmed." They press him for an accounting of how he turned a Strigoi back into a Dhampir. Robert explains he did it by using spirit charms on a silver stake. By stabbing the Strigoi in the heart with such a charmed stake, in effect, one can reverse their state of being. Rose is heartened until Robert tells her there is no way she can personally do it because she is a Dhampir. Only a Moroi can do it or the spirit...
