Chapter 13 Summary

Kaitlin waits at Becky's house for Bram to pick her up. Becky believes Kaitlin should tell Bram about her last name, but Kaitlin still disagrees. Bram picks up Kaitlin, brings her to his house and points out some green land that can be seen from the backyard. It is the last undeveloped part of land from the Crutchfield farm. Bram says they need more land to build a retreat there, and that the owners wouldn't sell, but that might change soon. Kaitlin understands the land that Bram's family wants is her family's land.

Bram also explains that his reluctance to go to college and study art is because his father, in an argument, demanded he study business instead. Bram's father died the same night. He had gone out during a storm with heavy equipment to save a pumping station. Kaitlin's father had gone...
