Summary

Chapter 26 is titled “Old Sins.” Magnus is in terrible pain. Then, he is in a room from his past. He and Ragnor were talking, and Ragnor said he was worried about Magnus, who has changed since he discovered the identity of his father. Magnus made light of it, saying he created a cult “to do all the most ridiculous things I can think of” (280). The memory changes. Cult members stole treasure from a count and gave it to hospitals. Members of the cult were “scrubbing the city streets, feeding the poor, and painting foxes blue. All in the name of Asmodeus” (282). Then Asmodeus appeared. Magnus was frozen. Asmodeus asked if Magnus was trying to make contact. Asmodeus pledges to take control of the cult and to wipe the memory from Magnus so that he can learn nothing from the experience.
