Chapter Eight Summary

Although he does not speak to her the rest of the night, Alex puts aside the restaurant incident. Being quite objective, Cassie cannot imagine a world where one was not condemned for the consequences of their actions.

Alex's public relations woman, Michaela, has arranged for him to be at the hospital for a photo opportunity with pediatric leukemia patients. She has done this in an effort to balance the bad press, so close to Oscar time, surrounding his fight in the restaurant. He apologizes again for exploding, and she realizes how relieved she is.

A maid that Cassie remembers, Mrs. Alvarez, comes in and offers to help her pack for Scotland. Cassie reads in the paper about Alex's fight, and realizes that he had been bothered by something other than her that caused him to go over the edge.
