Chapter 8 Summary

Kate notices that her mother is acting different and distant. On Saturday night, Kate's father asks Kate to work the booth at the mall on Sunday so he can give an information session as the library. At first, Kate says no, but then when she feels like she's upset her father, she says she'll work. On Sunday, she sees Will, Anna and Sam walking toward her booth, but Anna and Sam stop to canoodle with each other while Will talks to Kate. Will asks Kate if she really hates him that much, but she's interrupted from answering by a lady asking where the bathrooms are. When Kate's mother picks her up from work, her mom mentions that her father's last paycheck for unused vacation time was a lot smaller than expected, so her grandmother is coming to help them out.
